A Wellington city and coastal tour is a fabulous way to see everything. In hindsight, we would have done it on our first day there because I wanted to spend more time at a few of the tour sights but couldn’t fit it in to our stay. We met in downtown Wellington and boarded the small bus right after breakfast. Our first stop was the Wellington Cable Car. This particular cable car is a funicular that travels between Lambton Quay, the main shopping street, and Kelburn, a suburb in the hills overlooking the central city.
Once we got to the top we took the bus to see a rose garden situated in the botanical gardens.
From there we drove by the Beehive, which houses the executive branch of New Zealand’s Parliament. Below is Parliament House which contains the Speaker’s office, debating chamber and the visitor’s center.
Our last stop in the city was Old St. Paul’s Cathedral. This wood Cathedral was erected in 1866 and is considered to be one of the oldest Cathedrals in New Zealand.
From that point we took a bus ride along the south coast to the look out point at Mount Victoria where we were able to get a breathtaking 360 degree view of Wellington.
