Wellington City and Coastal Tour

It’s always a great idea, when possible, to take a tour of the city you’re visiting. In my opinion, it’s best to take it at the beginning of the trip. A city tour gives you the opportunity to get a quick glimpse at the highlights of the area. Doing it early in the trip allows time to go back to see more of any place that caught your attention. Here we took the Wellington city and coastal tour.

Our first stop was the Wellington Cable Car.

This particular cable car is a funicular that travels between Lambton Quay, the main shopping street, and Kelburn, a suburb in the hills overlooking the central city.

Once we got to the top we took the bus to see a rose garden situated in the botanical gardens.

From there we drove by the Beehive, which houses the executive branch of New Zealand’s Parliament.

Our last stop in the city was Old St. Paul’s Cathedral. This wood Cathedral was erected in 1866 and is considered to be one of the oldest Cathedrals in New Zealand.

From that point we took a bus ride along the south coast to the look out point at Mount Victoria where we were able to get a breathtaking 360 degree view of Wellington.
